It is especially hard to explain what the rules are to children because the laws have not quite caught up to the rapid developments in technology. And then there are problems concerning the difficulty in passing international laws. It is great you are discussing it with your students and helping them become responsible digital citizens. Sweet relief that at least they all knew about Creative Commons. I just did a lesson on this very topic with Heather's class last week and it sure was interesting to hear all of their different perspectives (blog post on the way). This just re-affirms what we already know, we need to be discussing this with students on a regular basis - the whole concept of copyright and ownership is changing, and it's confusing enough as it is!
